Director Thomas Campbell is gearing up The University Theatre at UW-Sheboygan for the spring production of Rainy Day People by Todd McCullough. Dramatic Publishing calls it a “smart, hilarious play that focuses on the age-old question, ‘What is happiness and is it available in easy-to-swallow capsules?’ ”. Suggested for mature audiences, the story revolves around Zack Wallis, a morose and cynical New York writer who has been able to turn his misery into a profitable news-column. All of Zack's success, however, is threatened when he falls in love and discovers that he's...gulp... happy.... Yikes! Winner of the 2002 Mark Twain Comedy Playwriting Award, this play offers a comedic take on love, sex and "other antidepressants."
Cast members include four UW-Sheboygan students: Karyn Attipoe as Madison; Kelsi Engelhardt as ‘Cats’ Woman; Alyssa Mares as Diana Demeter and Sydney Schaller as Bohemian Girl as well as three UW-Sheboygan alumnus: Leah Bischoff as Simone Paxton; Carrie Johns as Zoe Lofton; and Lindsay Streets as Harriet Brillstein. Other cast members (all from Sheboygan) include: Devin Bayer as Three Card Monte; Daniel Hennel as a Biochemist; Jennifer Schleinz-Herbst as a Single Mother; and Joe Schmitz as Zack Wallis.
Four performances of Rainy Day People are set for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, April 11 through April 14 at 7:30pm. All performances will be in the Fine Arts Theatre, located on the UW-Sheboygan campus at One University Drive in Sheboygan.
