Dr. Gary L. Miller, Chancellor of UW-Green Bay, will deliver UW-Sheboygan’s commencement address on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. As UW-Green Bay’s Chancellor since August 2014, Miller has a commitment to “expand community partnerships, foster student learning and champion the power of higher education to change lives.” Prior to his position at Green Bay, he served as chancellor at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. He holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Mississippi State University and Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Biology from the College of William and Mary.
UW-Sheboygan’s Graduate of the Year is Rachel Rice of Oostburg. An accomplished musician, she plays violin for Sheboygan’s Symphony Orchestra. She has served as an Executive Senator for Student Government on campus. Homeschooled, she first joined SGA to “help make our campus better” and admitted that it “has been a great learning experience for me.” Her career goal is to become a registered dietician and she looks forward to organizing meal plans and teaching healthy eating habits.
Class co-valedictorians are Sara Kroneck of Plymouth and Meghann Weeden of Sheboygan. Sara plans to transfer to UW-Green Bay to complete a bachelor’s degree in biology. Her career goal is to become an orthodontist. Meghann is a history major who will continue her studies at UW-Milwaukee in the fall.
Meghann has been accepted for a summer study-abroad program and is already in Europe studying World War I and II. As a result, she’ll be unable to attend the ceremony.
The main focus will be recognizing the accomplishments of graduating UW-Sheboygan students. This includes 12 bachelor degrees and 70 associate degree awards. The ceremony begins at 7pm in the Fine Arts Theatre. UW-Sheboygan is located at One University Drive in Sheboygan. Free parking is available. No tickets are needed to attend the event.
