The University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan Fine Arts Gallery invites the community to visit the campus for the latest Fine Arts Gallery art exhibition, Photographs by local Sheboygan artist Tom Ferguson. A special opening reception is set for Friday, October 13, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. The show runs October 6 to October 27.
Tom subscribes to the Ansel Adams philosophy that there are at least two people in every photographic image; the photographer and the viewer/s. He inspires viewers to keep them engaged and thinking about each facet of his photograph. His subject interests range from western landscapes to Wisconsin farm scenes, character revealing portrait images, architectural extractions, and images that see the humor, texture, and patterns in daily life. Ferguson’s hope is that “one of my images, or a portion of an image, will cause you to pause, examine the light, wonder, notice a layer, see a bit of beauty or humor and then – look again.”
Involved in photography since the late 1960’s, Ferguson worked in a camera shop during his college years, practiced still photography and produced several Super 8mm movies. After graduation, he joined Eastman Kodak Company where he had a successful 27-year career. Upon leaving Kodak he held a variety of managerial and leadership positions at several hi tech imaging oriented firms, ranging from wide format inkjet printing to imaging software.
Retired for six years, Ferguson serves on the board of advisors for High Sierra Workshops (a photographic workshop company) and is President of Sheboygan Visual Artists. His photographic work has been exhibited in a wide variety of juried venues including; THELMA Sadoff Center For The Arts, Racine Art Museum, Charles A. Wustum Museum, Cedarburg Art Museum, Cedarburg Cultural Center, John Michael Kohler Center For The Arts, Miller Art Museum, Two Fish Gallery, Pink Llama Gallery and Sheboygan Visual Artists.
UW-Sheboygan’s Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The campus is located at One University Drive in Sheboygan and offers freshman and sophomore level classes in over 250 majors.
