The University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan Fine Arts Gallery invites the community to visit the campus for the latest Fine Arts Gallery art exhibition, In Celebration of Trees: Artwork by Wisconsin artist Jean Tobin. The show runs April 6 through April 27, 2018, with a special artist reception planned for Friday, April 6 from 6pm-8pm. The reception is free and open to the public.
Jean Tobin is a member of Sheboygan Visual Artists, the Wisconsin Watercolor Society, and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. Co-founder of Glacial Lakes Conservancy and Professor Emerita of English with the University of Wisconsin Colleges, Dr. Tobin has published numerous articles, reviews, and poems, as well as two books: Creativity and the Poetic Mind (Lang, 2004) and, with Ruth Saxton, Woolf and Lessing: Breaking the Mold (St. Martin’s 1994; MacMillan, 1994). Her watercolors may be seen regularly at the Jura Silverman Gallery (Wisconsin Artists’ Showcase) in Spring Green.
Jean states that "This show includes paintings of flowers and places—Moscow’s unbelievable cathedral and Rothenburg ob der Tauber’s “motif number one” in Germany, and a lake in the mountains of Argentina—but more than anything, here are watercolors of trees, individual trees that stood before me as I drew their outlines in ink. Most were painted outside, plein air, or at least the watercolors were begun there and taken back to the studio.”
The Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information about the show or UW-Sheboygan's Fine Arts Gallery, contact Gallery Director Dan Smith at email@example.com.
