Special James Michael art exhibit opens at UW-Sheboygan
Opening reception for “Last Words” set for October 11
The Sheboygan community is invited to visit the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan Fine Arts Gallery to view “Last Words," a special paintings exhibit by the late artist James Michael throughout the month of October.
A special opening reception for this exhibition is scheduled for Friday, October 11, from 5-7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery. The public is welcome. This is the last opportunity to purchase a James Michael original piece before the remainder of the collection is donated.
Dr. Michael retired early from medical practice to follow his passion for watercolor painting. For more than 30 years, he taught watercolor painting at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and for several years at the Clearing in Ellison Bay, WI.
He exhibited locally and nationally, and became a signature member of the Wisconsin Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America, the National Watercolor Society and the American Watercolor Society and has been the recipient of numerous awards. More than a thousand of his paintings hang in private and corporate collections, and many were donated to local charity benefit auctions.
A large number of Michael’s artworks have been donated to UW-Sheboygan to be displayed permanently across the campus.
This exhibition will be on display through October 25. The Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and is located inside the Fine Arts Building at UW-Sheboygan.
