UW-Sheboygan CEO/dean finalists named

MADISON, Wis. – Ray Cross, the chancellor of University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin-Extension, today released the names of the candidates for campus executive officer/dean at UW-Sheboygan. The finalists are:


Professor Bill Gillard is currently an associate professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley in Menasha, Wisconsin. Prior to his current position, he was an English instructor at Farleigh Dickinson University, director of its Freshman Intensive Studies Program and associate director of the University Honors Program. Professor Gillard earned his master’s degree in fine arts in creative writing at Fairleigh Dickinson University, his master’s degree in English at Montclair State University and his bachelor’s degree in English at Saint Lawrence University.


Dr. Lance R. Grahn is a professor of history at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas. Prior to that position, he was provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Central Arkansas and dean of the College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Dr. Grahn earned his doctorate in Latin American history at Duke University, his master’s degree in Latin American history at Texas Tech University and his bachelor’s degree in history and Spanish at Abilene Christian University.


Dr. Jacquelyn A. Joseph-Silverstein is currently director of research administration at the Blood Center of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Prior to her current position, she served as executive vice president of academic and student affairs at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Joseph-Silverstein earned her doctorate in biological sciences at City University of New York, her master’s degree in biological sciences at Emory University and her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences at the University of Connecticut.


Dr. David L. Nixon served as vice president for academic and student affairs at Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Prior to that position he was the campus executive officer and dean at the University of Wisconsin-Washington County in West Bend, Wisconsin. Dr. Nixon earned his doctorate in political science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his bachelor’s degree in political science at Indiana University in South Bend.


Campus visits will be scheduled for each of the finalists in September so they can meet with faculty, staff, students and community members. The schedule will be posted on the UW-Sheboygan CEO/dean search website http://www.uwc.edu/deansearch when it is finalized.


In October, Chancellor Cross will name the new UW-Sheboygan campus executive officer/dean. The next CEO/dean will succeed Al Hardersen who announced his retirement in December 2011. Paul Chase currently serves as interim CEO/dean.
UW-Sheboygan is part of the University of Wisconsin Colleges, the UW System’s network of 13 freshman/sophomore campuses and UW Colleges Online that offers an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree and prepares students of all ages and backgrounds for baccalaureate and professional programs. The CEO /dean is the chief operating officer and chief academic officer of the campus.
