New Dale Knaak exhibit opens December 17
Sheboygan-area art lovers are invited to visit the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan’s Fine Arts Gallery for its newest exhibition of original paintings by local artist Dale Knaack. The public is invited to attend a special opening reception with the artists and light refreshments on Friday, December 17, from 5 to 7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery. The exhibition will run through Friday, January 28, 2011.
Dale Knaak was born in Sheboygan, and later moved to Milwaukee to study art. Living in Milwaukee for 10 years, he formed the basis of his art training. After obtaining a degree in Commercial Art, he studied painting and drawing for five years with the late James Prohl of Atelier Prohl.
Knaak is a realist painter creating artwork from his studio. He prefers to paint what he knows. His works are a product of inspiration, exposing what is unique and beautiful from what is often perceived as ordinary or mundane.
Working in either oil or acrylic paints has afforded Knaak with a level of confidence in either medium. Without concentrating on one genre or subject matter, he depicts images from the “times we live in.” Taking pleasure from reinventing color and composition to suit his personal preference and not adhering too closely to “the rules” provides room for experiments, interpretation and new discoveries.
Knaak has work in collections for the American Family Insurance Corporate Headquarters, University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospitals and Clinics, Johnsonville Sausage World Headquarters, Blue Harbor Resort and Hotel, McDonald’s Corporation, Bank First National and private collections.
Currently, he maintains a full-time art studio in the EBCO Artworks building in Sheboygan. He divides his time between personal painting, commissioned works and commercial mural projects.
All artwork will be on display in UW-Sheboygan’s Fine Arts Gallery, located inside the Fine Arts Building on the UW-Sheboygan campus. The Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday–Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Most of the artwork will be available for purchase.
