Join the UW-Sheboygan Foundation at Whistling Straits May 4
Fourth annual golf outing to raise funds for student scholarships

Although the snow is back and Mother Nature apparently forgot that spring started weeks ago, it doesn’t mean that golf season isn’t here!

Why wait any longer to dust off your driver and work on your swing? Be one of the first to hit the links in Sheboygan County and participate in the first local golf outing of the season – the UW-Sheboygan Foundation Annual Golf Outing at Whistling Straits.

The outing is your chance to enjoy a day on the Irish Course at breathtaking (and challenging) Whistling Straits all in the name of higher education in Sheboygan County.

Join the UW-Sheboygan Foundation for its fourth annual Scholarship Fundraising Golf Outing at Whistling Straits (N8501 County LS) on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. The day begins at noon with registration and check-in, followed by a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

The event at this PGA quality course features a Best-Ball format, with each player keeping his own stroke score, but the foursome will record only the top-performing golfer for the official tournament score sheet. New this year is a Callaway handicap, which will calculate a player’s handicap based on their score they shoot the day of the event. Carts will be available to all participating golfers at no extra charge, but must remain on cart paths at all times.

Throughout the day, participants will have the opportunity to compete in the Longest Drive contest for an award and UW-Sheboygan apparel, as well as a Hole-in-One competition that will award the first hole-in-one on Hole 6 a grand prize of $5,000 in cash and a $5,000 named scholarship to a UW-Sheboygan student. Additional hole contests and prizes will be available on selected holes throughout the 18-hole course.

Following the outing, all participants are invited to gather at The Haven Bar & Grill, located just down from the entrance to Whistling Straits, beginning at 5:30 p.m. for a free brat fry and awards ceremony. Brats will be provided by Old Wisconsin Sausage. A Silent Auction featuring a number of donated items from area business will be on display for golfers to place bids. All proceeds support scholarship fundraising efforts.

Besides sponsoring foursomes, area businesses are also encouraged to sponsor a hole on the 18-hole course to promote their area business, show support for UW-Sheboygan and local higher education. Hole sponsorships are available at $200 each on a first-come, first-serve basis. All hole sponsors receive signage on their sponsored hole and recognition in all event promotion and post-event coverage.

All foursome registrations and hole sponsorships are due by April 29, 2011. Registration forms are available online at www.sheboygan.uwc.edu, or by calling Carrie Hoppe at (920) 459-6612. Cost to register is $150 per golfer or $600 per foursome.

All proceeds from the event will support the UW-Sheboygan Foundation’s annual scholarship fundraising efforts, which provide more than $100,000 annually to area students who attend UW-Sheboygan. Additionally, all funds raised from hole sponsorships will be used to fund two scholarships for two incoming freshman to UW-Sheboygan during the 2012-13 academic year.

The UW-Sheboygan Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds to support student scholarships and provide the UW-Sheboygan campus with financial support for programming, equipment and campus improvements. Other fundraisers, such as the popular Chicken & All That Jazz and the Highland House Fundraising Dinner, together with the Scholarship Fundraising Golf Outing, help make it possible for students to reach their higher education goals in Sheboygan County without the burden of high tuition debt.

For more information on the UW-Sheboygan Foundation Golf Outing, contact Carrie Hoppe at (920) 459-6612 or e-mail carrie.hoppe@uwc.edu. If you are in need of a foursome, please contact Hoppe in advance for placement.
