Spring 2010 theater production to open April 15
University Theatre’s Spring production opens April 15
Two one-act plays to be featured
The Sheboygan community is invited to attend the debut of two new one-act plays at the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan in April. Productions will be offered at 8 p.m. April 15, 16, 17, 23 and 24 in the UW-Sheboygan Fine Arts Theater.
The two shows, Kissing Scene by Carl Martin and Krapp’s Last Tape by Samuel Beckett, together provide an intimate look at the choices we make in our lives and the unexpected consequences that come from them. Both shows will be directed by University Theatre’s Artistic Director Franklin Himes.
Kissing Scene revolves around an acting class where a man and a woman meet an hour before in a theater to rehearse their scene. The scene in question calls for them to kiss five times but whenever they attempt to rehearse the first kiss the duo break character to argue over the actual intent of the other. The comedy will feature local actors Heidi Weinaug and David Colton.
Krapp’s Last Tape combines comedy with tragedy to reveal past and present moments from one man’s life. As he prepares to record a new tap on his 69th birthday, Krapp begins to review his tape archives. This immersion in his own history leads Krapp to question with growing regret whether his present lives up to his past. The production features Sheboygan native Chris Fontaine.
All tickets for these two shows, which will be performed back-to-back each evening, are $10 each or free to all UW-Sheboygan students with ID. Advance tickets are available in the UW-Sheboygan Business Services Office between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday and Friday.
